Empire

Went to see Mark Napier’s show, Empire, at bitforms gallery yesterday. Mark is teaching a new class at ITP next semester using LWJGL (“lightweight java game library”) as means for exploring OpenGL as an artistic medium. Should be a great extension of the programming courses taught with processing at ITP. . .

I was interested in Mark’s use of a “springy” architectural form as a paintbrush and started messing around with a “pendulum-y” paintbrush. . .

Anyway, the show is great, go check it out!

So, I’m working on a project at ITP that involves viewer comments on video that are tied to specific points of time in the video. It needs a new title, something less, i dunno, boring. . .

I hope to post some videos and use this system at this site at some point. . . I hope a lot of things, though. . .

I’ve been getting some e-mails asking about the ol’ ShakespeareMonkey@Home project inquiring about sample source code, etc. My Nature of Code course covers a brief introduction to genetic algorithms and includes a sample applet that evolves the phrase “To be or not to be.”

This was made with Processing — I’ve been toying with the idea of generating a series of “how-to-program-with-processing” videos and vlogging them from here, we’ll see if I can find the time. . .
