Thanks very much for your answer. I do have a running Asterisk server. Since the asterisk server has a phone number attached to it, how would I read this phone number or where in the asterisk server setup can I find this information?

If you have an asterisk server set-up it would have a phone number and you would just call that number like calling any ol’ number!

I intend to try out your tutorial because it appears very clear to me. However what I cannot understand is the following sentence: The quickest way to make sure everything is working is to just telnet to your server and make a call.”
How do you actually ‘make a call’? Thanks in advance for all your help

Hi Daniel, this is a formidable tutorial, thank you very much for sharing it!

One general question I would have: What is the best way to get an actual phonenumber to call into an asterisk server? I understand that there is the hardware option, but that wouldn’t fly – if I understand correctly – if I am hosting on a VPN for example.

Are there services that map a phonenumber (e.g. 212-123-4567) to a host and port? How would I got about this?
