‘HOVER’ is a musical instrument / installation created by Jimmy Chung, Stephan Knuesel and Daniel Shiffman at ITP - New York University.
The user is invited into a dark space by a soothing soundtrack. Three balls gently hover in the air over transparent tubes to the music. Four infrared controllers allow the user to trigger tones while simultaneously affecting the height of the balls. Slow hand movements / gestures enable relaxation and contemplation.
Unseen forces are explored throughout this project. Air currents, sound waves, and infrared light are manipulated to create actions which are then visualized through floating balls. We enable the user to control invisible forces.
